The Contest

“And they lived happily ever after”
Or did they?
In passing from age to age, villains become heroes, the Wise become witches, viewpoints change and stories are turned on their heads.

Who knows who was really poisoned?
Who knows whuch one was saved?
Who lived to tell the tale?

Here are the links to five popular tales. Choose any one tale and change the endings, change the perspectives, tell us what really happened.

As we mentioned before, Cactus Flower is the Annual BITS magazine. Yet it isn't a magazine in the usual sense of the term. Cactus Flower doesn't bore you with mundane articles about the many seminars that take place on campus, or the great achievements of Albert Einstein. There are no reports about the failed suicide attempts on campus because of the hectic academic schedule, nor any reports about partially successful ones caused by extreme inebriation. Quizzes, plays, concerts, music nights held during the semester do not get a mention in the magazine.
Instead, Cactus Flower is more of a platform where students get to showcase their creative best. Short stories that captivate your imagination form the bulk of the magazine, while poems, humorous caricatures, sketches and photographs complete the issue. An editorial team, consisting entirely of students, is responsible for editing, designing and formatting each issue. While most of the inputs for the magazine are from the editorial team, Cactus Flower does take in entries from the general student population. Some of the stories and almost all sketches and poems are works of students who want to display their talent to the entire campus.
Previous issues are available on the bits-pilani website as well as in the BITS library. Every issue is unique in that each one has a different theme. The stories in each issue have a continuity that reflects that particular theme.
The current issue, Cactus Flower 2009, will be completed towards the end of next semester. Recruitment for a new first year batch in the editorial team has begun, and at the start of the next semester, Cactus Flower will invite entries for the latest issue.
